Dear Columbia Alumni Community,
We are deeply saddened by the devastating fire that swept through the Wang Fuk Court housing estate in Tai Po on November 26. This tragedy has claimed many lives, displaced thousands of families, and left our city in mourning. Many of those affected are elderly residents who lost their homes and belongings overnight.
As Columbians, we believe in supporting one another and the broader community during times of crisis. Here are ways you can help:
- Donate: Local charities are accepting contributions in cash or kind.
- Volunteer: Relief centers need assistance with distributing food, clothing, and essential supplies.
- Spread Awareness: Share verified information on donation channels and support services to ensure help reaches those in need.
Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the brave firefighters who risked their lives. Let us come together to provide comfort and hope during this difficult time. If there are any Columbia alumni who are directly impacted by the fire and requires assistance, please reach out to [email protected] and we will do our best to assist.
In light of the tragedy, the alumni club will be collecting donations at our next four events prior to Christmas. Please reach out to one of our board members at these events if you want to make a donation. You can also make a donation online here.
The Club and some of its board members will then match the amount of the alumni donations up to $20,000 and donate to the Hong Kong Red Cross or an equivalent charity. We hope the Columbia alumni community can gather our resources during this difficult time to help those who are in need.
With solidarity and compassion,
Columbia Alumni Association of Hong Kong - General Committee and Advisors
