CUAAHK would cordially like to invite you to our next Morningside Salon discussion with Mr. Ian Stone, Independent Non-Executive Director at Tencent.  With increasing scrutiny from global regulators who are tightening the screws on the Tech sector - what lies ahead for Tencent and their competitors.  Mr. Stone will share his thoughts on the Tech sector and his views on Tencent’s role across the internet spectrum.

Speakers

Speaker: Mr. Ian Stone

Since 2004, Ian has been an iNED to Tencent Holdings Ltd – an internet ecosystem applications, services and investment company listed in Hong Kong.  He is also an iNED at OSN (Panther Media Group) since 2018 – a Pay TV and Streaming media business in the MENA region.  He has been an advisor to the Planet N Group of companies since 2018 – with tech investing activities in Asia and the MENA regions.

Ian is a Director and joint-owner of Pontis Partners Ltd a telecom and tech advisory and consulting company from 2003 to present.  Ian was former CEO to various Hong Kong based Mobile and Wireless companies including CSL, Pacific Link, SmarTone, SUNDAY, UK Broadband and PCCW Global(and SITC in Saudi Arabia) between 1990 and 2010, and held various senior roles for Cable and Wireless between 1970 and 1997 – a global satellite and cable company.

Moderator: Mr. Danny Lee

Danny Lee is a partner at Blue Pool Capital who runs global private investments.  He has over 20 years of investment experience spanning venture, growth capital and buyout transactions globally. Before Blue Pool, Danny was a Managing Director at Bain Capital Asia and Vice President at Investor AB, the largest industrial holding company in Nordic region. He started his career in Lehman Brothers in NY and HK. Danny is an Aspen Finance Fellow, Edmund Hillary Fellow, a Chartered Financial Analyst and New Zealand Elevate Venture Fund Investment Committee Member. He serves the community through his role as an independent director at Hong Kong Chinese Women Club College, as a guest lecturer for Columbia Business School and Lingnan University, and through his scholarship supporting international students at Columbia University and the United World College in HK. Danny has a BA in Economics from Columbia.
